Mixing brands in my stack?

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a Hartke 2500 head and a 215 Seismic Audio cab (not very good but it was all i could get at the time) I've been wanting to upgrade and wasnt sure if I should get Hartke cabs to go with the head or if another brand would sound better with my head.

I play rock like Three Days Grace and Breaking Benjamin and play an Ibanez SRX550.

This is my first half stack so I haven't experimented with different brands so if anyone has any suggestions on cabs that sound good with Hartke I'd like to hear them. Thanks

Use whatever you like, but play it before you buy it.

Your basses, your amp head, audition different brands as well as the HyDrives = rig you will be happy with.

No problems mixing brands. One of the best sounding rigs I ever had was an SWR Interstellar Overdrive into a Trace Elliot head and into an Eden 410XLT cab.

I've mixed every brand imaginable over the years, with mixed results. ( I know, bad joke.) Some amps sounded great with practically any cab, my Mesa D180 for example, others favored certain cabs. I don't like the 118 cab with my GK1001RBII, it sounds sort of muffled. My Terror bass sounds great with the 118, clear and sweet. If you can try various combinations you'll find what sounds best for your tastes. The Orange SP212 sounds really good as an extension cab off my Phil Jones Suitcase.

I can't do it.

I probably have problems, but I can't do it. Everything has to match.

Everything I match with my mesa powerhouse 1000 sounds good. I've run acoustic 370s, 150bs, peavey mark III, IV and VI, GK 400rb and 800rb, ampeg 350s, and my mesa400+. They all pretty good. The 800rb killed, and the 370 was to die for. Hell even the ampeg 350 which gets a lot of hate hear for being sterile sounds good.

I think the important thing is to be aware of the characteristics of certain cabs and certain heads and make sure that it lines up with your expectations for your rig.
