Mod Amp for DaisyChain

Sign in to disble this ad
I have two Peavey 410TX cabs, and they each have a single 1/4" input. Is there a way to wire a second 1/4" into one of the cabs so I can daisychain from one to the other?

What amp are you using?

The answer is yes, but you'd need to drill out a hole for the 2nd jack, and wire it parallel to the existing one. Be sure whatever amp you're using can handle the load, I think those TX cabs may be 4 ohms, so the amp would have to handle a 2 ohm load. Not all amps do.

There are 8 ohm 410TX.
If the amp doesn't have two speaker outputs, buliding a parallel speaker cable will be easier and won't require to mod your amp.

How do I do that? I use a carvin power amp, but want one of those peavey ipr. They just dont gave enough wattage per channel into 8 ohms, so I want to daisy chain so I can present 4 ohms to a single channel.

Does the amp not have 2 spkr OUTS? You can just plug both cabs from the head you know, it's exactly the same thing.

Just drill a hole and mount a second jack wherever you can. Wire it + to + , - to - with the first one. Your carvin amp can be bridged into 4ohms but not 2. It doesn't matter if you run separate cables from amp to each cab or one cable from amp and one from cab to other cab. End result is the exact same.

OR put together a plastic box with three jacks of the correct type wired in parallel. No modifications to existing equipment needed.

my power amp only has one output per channel. If I plug each cab into a channel, it only sees 8 ohms each. But if I can get both cabs into one channel, it will see 4 ohms, and I will get more volume, correct?

No.

The cabs won't be getting any more power from one channel at 4ohms than they from two channels at 8ohms....maybe even a little less.

You can bridge the amp and then chain the two cabs. Put your chaining jacks in the little box like bassmanpaul is talking about if you don't want to drill into the cabs. How big is the amp? If they're already getting more than a couple hundred watts each they're likely getting close to their displacement limit anyway and won't get much louder. The power increase would make headroom at the amp but wouldn't really result in much if any more volume.

Here you go: Ampeg 810 with Single 1/4 Input Question

The 1/4" jacks are isolated from the metal box with shoulder washers. You can see them behind the jacks. Everything is wired in parallel. This allows you to mix and match inputs and outputs.

A plastic box is easier construction wise and doesn't require the isolation washers but it doesn't take a beating like the metal one can.
