Modding a Mesa Walkabout cab to have a jack

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a Walkabout 12 combo. It's one somewhat odd feature is the fixed male 1/4" cable that connects the cab to the wonderful Walkabout amp.

I thought that I saw someone here on TB who had modded a Walkabout or Scout cab with a female combo 1/4" + neutrik jack in place of the male 1/4".

How hard was this to do, and would it have any other impact that I am missing (other than possibly voiding the Mesa 5 year warranty). I am considering modding my Walkabout in this way so I can use other amps with the cab without needing a female/female 1/" adapter. I am not super skilled with electronic components, but I am not hopeless either.

It's very easy. Buy one like this: http://www.alliedelec.com/search/pro...px?SKU=5140015

Cut the cable, drill a bigger hole, and re-solder

cool, so its very clear which lines in the existing cable go to which points on the 1/4"+neutrik jack ? Is there some guidance on the drill size to use ? It looks like it might need more than a 5/8" bit (which I think is my biggest one)

Like I said, I am not highly experienced, but I do know how to do basic soldering (when really needed )

I did, although I did not do the work. My tech did and he seemed to indicate that the hardest part was making the new hole. You can see he plugged the old one.

I'm measure the plug in the morning for you and let you know. It is pretty obvious which wire goes were once you look into the plug. I'm sure you will have no problem. I drilled the hole right were the existing hole was so I didn't have to plug anything.
