I have been searching but have not found a list of sealed cab makers and models. Aside from our well known oldies what is the selection today? |

Not 100% sure if it's sealed or not, but the upcoming Barefaced '69er looks pretty cool. http://barefacedbass.com/product-range/69er.htm

+1 for the new Ampeg PF115 and PF210 sealed cabinets.

I think the 'Port' in 'Portaflex' is for Portable, but the 'Flex' is for Reflex (or ported) cabinet... FWIW, the ones I tried in GC sounded great.

In general, a sealed cab isn't quite as loud as a ported cab, but would trade that off for more extension to the bass response on the bottom.
In a ported cab, the port is tuned to a specific frequency and it generally boosts the volume of the sounds at that frequency. So, it sounds like it's giving you more bass.
My Aguilar GS410 is a ported cab. Comparing it to my Berg 610, the 410 sounds huge and ballsy on the bottom. The 610 sounds dull and flat, in comparison. But, a different perspective on the same thing is that my 410 sounds boomy and uneven and my 610 nice and even across all the strings.
When I'm playing with other people, I think the 610 sounds better. I can turn it up to get the volume on the bottom that I want and also then hear the notes on the G string well. With the 410, I have to really cut the Bass EQ knob on my amp to get a sound where the bottom has the volume I want and I can still clearly hear the higher notes.

The ported NEO version sounds deeper and louder but looser on low end if you keep amp settings the same and just move speaker connection from one cab to other for a direct a/b comparison. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
