Modern tone on a budget

I'm really interested in a Mesa Boogie 410 cab, but the price tag is scaring me away. I was wondering if there are any less expensive cabs that can get a nice modern tone comparable to Mesa's.

Thanks.

Describe "modern". The Avatar TB153 would likely be the most affordable "modern" there is now unless you're handy with wood and tools, there's always fEarful and BFM designs. I wouldn't consider any 410 with a tweet "modern" by any means.

He (?) did describe "modern" -- like a Mesa 410. Just gotta figure out what that means ...

BoomHeadshot, I'm also wanting a Mesa 4x10 but can't get around the price tag. I got to use a Mesa Walkabout and 4x10 from the headlining band for which my band was opening for almost 4 years ago and that setup has been on my wishlist ever since. If you want a good modern 4x10 cab for a reasonable price, maybe try Gallien-Krueger, they seem to have a good range of entry-level and intermediate products with a more-manageable price tag. They're less expensive than MarkBass or SWR cabs.

i think it kind of depends on what amp you are using as well. I have played through a Mesa powerhouse 410 but the amp was a Mesa 400+ and i wouldn't exactly call the sound modern.

I was playing an SWR 550x into a Mesa PH410. I don't really know how to describe the tone, but I think that I will save up some money, because I've never heard a better bass tone than that. (IMO of course)

Not sure what makes Mesa modern.

At any rate, you'll get a list of cabs that people like. Hope it helps.
