Modular 8x10 idea. Thoughts?

So for some strange reason I have severe GAS for one of those Ampeg Micro setups.

To make matters worse, I recently thought about going with not 2, but 4 SVT-210AV cabs to have a completely modular Ampeg 8x10.

That would give me the 2x10 option for bedroom jamming, 4x10 option for small gigs, and 8x10 option for big gigs.

Now the Micro-VR wouldn't be able to go down to the 2ohm load all 4 cabs would create, but a full blown SVT would.

The full rig would be able to handle 800 watts, more than enough for an SVT, and 2 of them would handle 400 watts, which again, could probably handle an SVT at moderate levels.

I'm really considering giving it a go, especially with those cabs being just 25lbs a piece!

Anyone try something like this already. Good idea, bad idea?

Thanks guys!

I haven't done it but I've thought about it. I think it is a good idea if the modularity suits your needs. Some people might prefer a 1 cab load in/out but they are not you and you are not them.

It sounds like a good idea to me. My Mesa Walkabout goes down to 2 Ohms and puts out around 500W. It'd be thunderous with 8 10's. I'm going to have to test out one, or two.... or 4 of those ampeg cabs now. I hope they sound good as they're certainly priced right.

Yeah I'm only concerned with how the SVT would fit on top.

I know the 210's have those little cups on top for the amp feet to sit in. I'm pretty sure they wont line up with the SVT, that and the SVT is a little deeper than the 210 cabs.

Might be a little shakey!

I'd be concerned about that, too. I love the 210av's, though...I've used two with my SVT before, but I put the SVT on bottom.

You should stack them all on top of each other! THAT, would rock!

Seriously, I have a 210av and I love it, and before my last band fell apart I was going to ditch my 410HLF and use two 210avs.

Sounds like a good idea, but for me, i've "curbed" my 810 for 2 212 cabs, once I ran my svt-vr through them....
