Mold on Fender Rumble 100???

Sign in to disble this ad
So I picked up this used Fender Rumble 100 on Craigslist for $40. Problem is, there is mold that started to grow on the back. I peeled back some of the "carpeting" cover on the back & it looks like the wood got a little bit too. Plugged in & played, & it sounds decent (for what it is) but maybe some "rumbling" (no pun intended) at higher volumes and maybe some "breaking up" as well.

My question is, WHAT DO I DO??

I admit I'm impulsive & should've thought it through. I really thought I could clean up the mold (if it were just on the surface) but now I'm stuck with this amp and honestly I though $40 was a deal I couldn't refuse. But I don't really need this amp (LOL).

Any suggestions???

As far as function, the worst cases would be too much, moisture getting to the speaker cone and rust on amp parts. If that looks ok it'll work. Peel off carpet on bad areas, brush and spray bleach on moldy areas and let the wood and everything dry ouy before you pit it back together.

It's a 100 watt combo amp. It'll likely get distorted if you really turn it up, just because a volume knob goes to 10 doesn't mean it sounds good up there, it is what it is. For $40 and it works it's a good deal anyway. Keep it around for something to plug into, sell it for $80, or give it to some kid to learn on, donate it to a school music program..whatever.

Some Lysol Spray, the kind that freshens air, will kill the mold on the carpet too. If you can put it out in the sun for a bit, that would help too.

I got the Lysol & cleaned it up a bit but the outer carpet is slightly discolored. Can I get some black fabric paint or something and paint it to make it look better??
