Monolith Magma - who's got one?

Sign in to disble this ad
Howdy:

I'm very intrigued by this development.

Always been impressed with the sound of the Sunn beta bass and some months back when I was looking to see if there were any around on the used market and there's very few to be had.

I have listened to the clips. Looking for some first hand reports and what are you running them with.

I just scored an old Peavey 120W tube power amp and was thinking the magma could do some serious damage thru a tube power amp like the SVT 300 or Mesa Strategy 400 or similar.

So, what are your experiences and what do you think so far?

rock on,

CM

give it a week, there are 5 or 6 of us in the Stoner/Doom bassist thread that did a group buy from Wade at Monolith and he just told us our Magmas will be shipping on Thursday... So, next week there will be lots to report!

Awesome. Can't wait, hopefully one of you guys can compare / contrast running it thru std. SS power amp as well as thru a tube power section.

Far as I know, nobody has done that yet. Could be, uhhh, doomy?

Yup, I'm part of the group with Eyeball and I had bought a crown power amp initially, but recently I found a peavey 120 power amp as well so I'm also waiting for that to arrive. I'll be able to try the magma through both once it and the peavey arrive and let you know my thoughts. Although I won't be bringing that much doom for you guys...but there are others who will I'm sure.

I came so close to buying a 1x15 BH cab from MONOLITH last Spring....just could not figure a way to haul it short of changing vehicles. I only wanted to ring-in here to say how patient and helpful Wade was on the phone every time we spoke and that people shouldn't hesitate to call if they have questions.

Me neither, I'm doing psych rock but being able to cop a doom tone is good dirty fun. Huge fan also of Aaron Beam, he's rocking the beta bass all too proudly.

I'd guess those guys are going to need something to replace those old Sunns at some point - as hard as they run 'em I'm guessing it's already a challenge keeping them tip top on the road.

I'm pretty satisfied with my current amps but there's something to the beta bass and I want to try one out.

Looking forward to hearing it boys, let's have some clips.

Now we're talking...thanks for posting the pic. Is the right hand footswitch for the effects loop then?

This into an SVT-300 power amp....hmmm.

Left switch: Switches between channel A/B

Middle switch: Both channels

Right switch: On/off

There is no effects loop on the MD, the pedal is a "light" version of the Magma preamp. No need for it here!

Itīs really good, i feel lucky to be able to use both the best tube-distortion in the MeatSmoke and the best trasnistor-distortion in the Magma! (not at the same time though)

The MD is very powerful and loud as hell! A true beast!

Guess I was dreaming about putting it on my board and having effects lined up behind it in a footswitchable loop, haha.
