What are your favorite clear and buzzless under 100 watt combo amps. I am looking for an amp for practice mostly, I am not in a band and dont plan on being in one anytime soon, I'm just a closet player and am fine with that. But I am sick of my buzzing, fuzzy behringer thats 400w and completely useless. Whats your favorite combo amp under 100w? Oh and reliability is nice, I dont want an amp that breaks down in 6 months.

Virtually ANY amp you buy will be an upgrade from what you have. Look at Ampeg, SWR, GK, Line 6, and so on.

hmmm i actually have a GK combo thats about 100w or so, but its been at a friends house for the past 3 years, basically forgot about it. Thinking about it, i should probably go pick that up assuming its still there. Probably sounds better than my Behringer.

400w you say, is that RMS, peak, peak to peak or advertising rated?

Unless it says 'RMS' after the power figure then completely ignore it (class D amps are an exception as I believe as they haven't decided how to rate them yet. BFM et al will know better than me).

Our guitarist found a lightweight PA that he was all for buying - 600w, 'that's more than our current one, half the size and a quarter the weight' says he. On investigation it was not RMS and had 8" speakers and no tweeters. Not quite a match for our 15s with tweeters.

I just looked on the Bay at car stereo amps. Top of the page was a 6000W module. 6000W in a car, no way. Just doing a spot of basic maths a 6000W amp running at 100% efficiency would consume about 410 amps. Even with the engine revving the battery would be flat in a couple of minutes at full volume, not to mention the total loss of hearing.

I suspect your 400W Behringer is using 'Advertising' watts, not RMS. No wonder it buzzes, it is probably about 17W (RMS).
