Most Portable Amp

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi,

Im currently moving to St Croix for 6 months and leaving my wonderful big bass rig in storage. Im looking for a portable rig, I know markbass is a great little amp with lots of power, wondered if there are any combo amps out there that have push but also are easy to ship/fly/check on a plane.

You really need to be clear with yourself about how loud you need it to go. There's always a trade off when you're trying to get 'push' out of a small cab. I use a Markbass Micro which is great for low volume applications but the Genz 3.0" Combo seems to give you much more volume for a little more weight and bulk.

Given that you are talking about plane check ins where every lb costs $ I'd give the Markbass Micro a look. It's SMALL.

About 3 weeks ago I bought a GB Shuttle 3.0-10T combo. I honestly still cannot believe the volume and LOW END that comes from that single 10" speaker. Expensive yes. Worth it? Every penny. I've also tried the Markbass 12" combo, sorry I don't know the model and thought it sounded great.

The GenzBenz Shuttle 3.0 combo is really something else as far as I am concerned.

As far as the airplane... I don't think you could carry on the 10T or even the 8T if you are on a turbo prop going into St. Croix but the weight is such that it would probably be fine in the box and checked. On a 737 type plane the 8T might make it.

The Phil Jones Briefcase or the Markbass Micromark might be a better option because you could probably lay them on their sided in the over head bin or put under your seat??? The Micromark and the briefcase just don't have the volume from what I have seen.
