Is there a such thing even?
Has anyone here ever encountered a combo amp that was mostly transparent and didn't color the sound of their bass much, if it all?

The Ibanez Promethean 5110 combo is fairly neutral, as well, as is the Genz-Benz Shuttle 6.0/12. The GK MB series combos are perhaps a bit hyped in the lows and the highs, but they are otherwise fairly balanced and certainly very clear and articulate. |

And all the head/cab setups I've use were colored too - not transparent.

I've seen a few guys recomend Markbass and I've tested these two brands head to head (no pun...) and I can safely say that Glockenklang was more transparent. Hope this helps...

I think they have some GK amps at my local GC, I'll give one a try.

Or conversely --
What's the farthest from a thud in the mud?
I've run keyboards, acoustic guitars, and e-drums through my EA iAmp-600 + CX-310 and the results were very impressive, not transparent, but very clean, clear, and musical all at the same time.

Sounds like Markbass is the best option, but they're a bit pricey. I'll try a GK at guitar center when I get a chance.

Not that a good sounding amp isn't a good thing...
I really want a transparent (or as close to transparent as possible) bass rig. I want it to just be the sound of my bass, but louder.
But then again, almost anything is an improvement over my 15-watt $70 RMS amp. And I have a pretty heavily restricted budget at the moment.
Part of me feels I should just wait and save up to get a really nice head/cab setup. Another part just wants a better amp ASAP.
I really hate not having a lot of money to spend.
