Most transparent combo amps?

Is there a such thing even?

Has anyone here ever encountered a combo amp that was mostly transparent and didn't color the sound of their bass much, if it all?

My Markbass CMD 121H combo seems to be that way.

I'd throw the Phil Jones Bass and AER combos into that category.

The Ibanez Promethean 5110 combo is fairly neutral, as well, as is the Genz-Benz Shuttle 6.0/12. The GK MB series combos are perhaps a bit hyped in the lows and the highs, but they are otherwise fairly balanced and certainly very clear and articulate.

aer and markbass combo sound like my fender jazz through a direct mix board... if that is a "flat" sound.

Don't forget I am talking strictly combo amps here, as I know there are some head&cab setups that are pretty transparent.

No, never - and I've used many bass combo amps.

And all the head/cab setups I've use were colored too - not transparent.

Glockenklang is very transparent!
I've seen a few guys recomend Markbass and I've tested these two brands head to head (no pun...) and I can safely say that Glockenklang was more transparent. Hope this helps...

I'm really liking the look of the GK MB112. $400. I like the reviews I'm reading about it.

I think they have some GK amps at my local GC, I'll give one a try.

The only thing I'll point out about the MB112 is that it does not have a tweeter, and therefore it does not extend as high as the MB115, which does have a tweet.

Transparency doesn't exist in bass amps, combos or separates. Even if you have a head that does near flat, the cabs never do because truly flat drivers just don't exist.

Well most people know that; I suspect what the OP means is 'what is the closest to transparent?'.

Or conversely --
What's the farthest from a thud in the mud?

I've run keyboards, acoustic guitars, and e-drums through my EA iAmp-600 + CX-310 and the results were very impressive, not transparent, but very clean, clear, and musical all at the same time.

Yeah, just looking for amps that have the least amount of "color".

Sounds like Markbass is the best option, but they're a bit pricey. I'll try a GK at guitar center when I get a chance.

GK are anything but transparent. But they sound really good.

Not that a good sounding amp isn't a good thing...

I really want a transparent (or as close to transparent as possible) bass rig. I want it to just be the sound of my bass, but louder.

But then again, almost anything is an improvement over my 15-watt $70 RMS amp. And I have a pretty heavily restricted budget at the moment.

Part of me feels I should just wait and save up to get a really nice head/cab setup. Another part just wants a better amp ASAP.

I really hate not having a lot of money to spend.
