Mounting a 12" Bass Cab on a tall tri-pod speaker stand

Lately in practice I've been putting my bass amp on top of our rack case that basically puts the speaker at my ear level .. In other words the center of the cab is about 5 feet or so off the ground. It is really easy for me to hear and subsequently I can turn the volume down and still hear it clearly.

So ... I was thinking of mounting my cab on a speaker stand normally used with with PA speakers at my next gig. You know the type of stand I mean, the telescopic tri-pod type.

I have a Genz Benz Shuttle 6.0 12T ... so it's light enough that I could mount it easy and of course securely.

Has anyone done this? Are there any negatives to this? I'd be interested in Aged Horse's response.

Hi.

The only problem I have found with tri-pod mounting is the footprint. That makes them usually inconvenient in the places where that would be most beneficial.

The floor coupling that is lost when raising the speaker does more good than harm IME/IMHO.

If You don't have FOH support, the bass may be buried in the mix, and as You turn back up, the bass is all that You hear.

Regards
Sam

Just tilt the cab back if you need to hear it better...
