Mute problem

Is it normal for a mute switch to mute playing, but not the pop from plugging in an instrument? I've got a carvin b1500 and when I was switching basses at a gig last night I got a loud pop when I plugged in the second bass. I thought that I had forgot to turn the mute switch on, but it was when I checked and no sound came through just from playing. Is this normal or is it time for a trip to the repair shop?

Not normal................

I own two B1500's, and a BX500 - NONE of them allow any sound through when muted.

Per chance was the bass you plugged in active??? If so, you applied a 9V signal to the amps input. That is many times the size of the signal the amp expects and could get through the muting circuitry.

My BX1500 does not have the problem.

That's the problem. Just tried with a passive bass and no noise

Except for the fact that all I play are active basses...............

NEVER a pop/peep or anything through my Carvins when muted.

It does seem like a poorly designed system. Maybe I need to call Carvin tech support ad let them clear it up for me.
