My amp is now airborne!

So, I've been complaining than I don't hear the mids from my basses as well when I stand up compared to when I'm sitting. Playing through my Markbass F500 and Bergantino AE410 (amazing setup, btw) it sounded great no matter where I was but somehow better when I was sitting. People have told be that I could get an amp stand and I thought about it but being the cheap, impatient person that I am I scoured my house for something I could use just as easily and found... an Ikea corner table that seemed perfect for the job! Who ever thought 21" would make that much of a difference?

Now, standing or sitting I still get that awesome punch that I love to hear so much. Both my Clement and FMT are growling like I've never heard before! Of course, the price for getting the cab off the ground is a little bottom end response but to me it was negligible. I figure I can always boost the bass/low-mids on the bass or amp if it really gets to me.

This table is officially part of my rig now, lol. It's going to gigs and everything! Now if I can find a sturdier, 3' table I'm set for good !

I also have my amp of the ground but for a different reason, I live in a house that has been turned into 3 large apartments, and I live on the top floor, I don't need to be shaking my neighbors ceiling. They did get in a big fight awhile back at like 3am in the morning about 5 minutes of me and my amp and their fight was over

Sure you want to put a cab on an IKEA table?

People like to rag on Ikea because it's cheap (fiscally) but everything I've gotten has been quality stuff. Probably gonna go back for a taller table

I'd try to angle the cab a bit, while keeping it on the floor.
That way you'll keep some of the low end you are missing, on the other hand, the sound will be projected to your ears nonetheless.
That's what we are doing with bass cabs and guitar combos.

It depends on how close to your amp you have to stand. I have a little kick back Genz benz 6.0 12-t I love it but when I have to stand right in front of it I don't hear it all that well especially when playing a low volume gig...t

I agree that for me, angling the cab works better than just lifting it.
I build myself something similar to this (Evan Farmers rig from Alleva Coppolo page):

I always use an amp stand with my Roland DB 700. It raises and tilts it up toward me. Works like a charm.

This is one of the reasons I like the idea of using two 210 cabinets as a vertical 410.
It gets the top speaker up closer to your ears but still couples the bottom cab with the floor.

I use an Uber 4x10 and when I first got it I was concerned about it being too low to the ground. Sure enough, my first gig with it I couldn't really hear myself and the sound guy said I was too loud. (It was a really tight area, though.)

I had been reading everything I could find on TB about whether or not it was a good idea to get a cab up off the floor. I figured the only way to find out was to make a platform and see what happened. So my dad and I whipped up a box that is 16"H x 20"D x 25" wide that is made of 3/4 plywood and framed internally with 2" X 2"'s. I used this for the first time last night at a gig.
I was very pleased with it. I could hear myself just fine, the guitar player said he could hear it better, and the sound guy was happy. Was a little concerned about losing some low end,
but that appeared to be minimal.
If there is a downside to this it is that the box is fairly large and, being made of 3/4, is a little heavy. But I put some handles on the side so I can flip it upside-down and carry stuff in it, so it does have two uses.
BTW I got that idea from another TB'er. I am not that clever.

For those of you with larger or heavier cabs, you may want to check out these: http://www.quiklok.com/catalog/?p=pr...7&sName=WS-550

They hold up to 300 lbs and fold down to a " T " shape that's very easy to schlepp.

I bought a quick lok for my TL606 cabinet and the stand is very high quality
I never use it as rasing the cabinet killed the bass response

+1 on angling the cabinet; use a piece of shipping foam (approx 2") under the front; bass stays full and the angle makes a huge difference with being able to hear yourself on shallow stages

That looks perfect!!! I'm gonna buy one tomorrow. My cab is really light for a 410 (62 lbs) but having an adjustable height stand specifically meant for this kind of operation sounds great. I guess the Ikea table can go back to holding up my Dad's dusty old record player

Just keep in mind that the lowest setting you can get for height is 24". For some, that's too much.

Just curious why would it be too much? I know for me that's only 3 inches higher than what I already have which isn't a big deal.

Just curious do you know of any similar alternatives? Not tilt back stands but something to get it higher off of the ground?

just make sure you're not wrecking the experience for your listeners. if you are standing and they are sitting, never mind if there is a stage involved...

STAND? WUFFORR?

Why use a stand ?

Just lay down in front of your speakers and play with your head in front of the cab. Best of both worlds and plus you'll gain a rep.

Fantastic that you've found 'your' sound in a 4x10. I'm happy for you. They don't seem to get a lot of love around hear if you're interested in building your own. Lots of "other" suggestions. I heard the Berg on youtube some time ago, fat sound for NEO's.
