My Big Gig Rig completed!

Sign in to disble this ad
I am using my GK 700RBII with my Alembic F1-X through either my SWR Goliath or Goliath Jr cabs for most of my club gigs.

But I have been putting together a Big Gig Rig in the odd chance I get a festival or outdoor loud gig. The Ampeg B4R is the power amp in the rig...the Ampeg SVT IIP is the main pre I am using with it and the Yamaha PB-1 is added for a little versatility and for use with active basses for more pop type gigs...or just for a change of taste...

The Working Tower is my first 810 but I am actively looking for a Megoliath or Goliath Sr.

Have you thought about getting a 2 channel poweramp so that you can use both your Goliath and Goliath Jr. at the same time?

No, I like the 810 and 610 cabs better than pairing cabs. Sounds better to my ears. I also an mot a fan of stand alone power amps. I like that by using the bass amps as power amps...I have yet another tonal choice and also a backup should he pre crash on the gig. Besides my Goliath Jr is a 4 ohm.... so i get a lot of swat out of it on it's own. I have the 8 ohm 410 should I need to move more air. I used to have a Goliath Sr and I loved that cab...but now getting into the 810 thing...I would like to try the Megoliath.

The B4R is a two channel amp, you could bi-amp all of your cabs with that one head. I had a B4R and moved it along for a G-K 1001RB-II, which is lighter, but I miss the B4R. I needed me some Ampeg tone so I got a SVTII (non-pro), I love it, it is how bass should sound IMO. Thick, warm and a bit dirty! I use a VT pre-amp pedal with either head at low volume to get a bit of dirt in the tone. I heard good things about the Yamaha, but since it is SS isn't it better at a hi-fi type tone? Take care and nice rig! Cheers.
