My Buzzing Behringer 400w

Sign in to disble this ad
I got a 400w Behringer stack, head and amp. There is always a trebley buzzing going on and it gets REAL annoying. I am looking into getting rid of this buzz and I am wondering if i just got a higher quality head, like an ahsdown or markbass or something... would/could the buzzing stop? Or is that a problem in the amp itself? The amp/head is just crappy in general, and I am looking to move on from it, Behringer was a bad choice in bass amp IMO.

What model? There was/is a problem with a ground loop hum on one of their heads.

Is the buzz present if you don't plug your bass and raise the volume of the amp? If the answer is yes then maybe is time to look for a new head.

The answer is yes. The head is a 450w Behringer head, came paired with the cabinet. Is it ok to get any head with 450 or higher watts?

The buzzing gets louder as the vol. is turned up.

Should I try and sell this head to GuitarCenter or something?

If the amp is humming with nothing plugged in then the problem lies in the amp. That said other electrical sources on the same power circuit could be contributing to the problem.

haha i bet it will explode one of these days, thats for sure. Its kind of a 400 dollar POS, huge waste of money. At this point i want to try and sell it at a GC or some place to scrape together atleast 200 dollars. I shouldnt have bought new and I shouldnt have just walked into a store and just buy an amp knowing nothing. Bought that amp before the days of talkbass.com.

Yes.

Now, did you read my post? Did you search for ground loop Behringer?

That's a good head, and you likely have a ground loop that is easy to fix.

Or dump it....up to you.

Buzzing can mean a lot of things.. Like if you use a lot of high end on your Eq you'll get buzzing from a low quality head like that one. But if you take out the highend and their is still buzzing, its a problem within the electronics of the amp.

My old Peavey did that with two power-strips daisy-chained. I removed one and presto!. Another amp of mine also gets a little electro-static buzz (not hum) from my bass--like unshielded Strats do until you touch the switch--but it's minor and liveable.

If you have two power strips and cheap/unshielded pups (and are near a monitor or flourescent light) that'll compound the problem to severity!

NAh, the Tweeter isn't on. I just got all new Planetwave cables as well. My bass pickups were recently replaced and upgraded by a luthier in Chicago. It has to be the Bass amp or head.

Well, pups are okay then--have you tried
1) Different outlet?
2) Different outlet and no power strip?
3) Different house/location? (lame I know)
4) Furman-type power conditioner? ($ & inconvenient I know)

If none of those work you either have a quirky "practice" amp or a big door-stopper.
