Is my db 212 speaker blown?

Sign in to disble this ad
I use a 8 ohms aguilar db 212 with a mesa M6 set flat and when I play a low F or E, I get a rattling sound from one speaker.

This sound is not present when I play other notes and it does the same thing with a bergantino 112 that I recently got, used...

Do I have to replace those speakers?

You might want to pull the driver and check if a wire is resting on it. It might be as simple as moving the wire away from the speaker.

thanks for the tip. I removed the driver and a wire was pinched between the bow and the contour of the speaker. the wire seems to be damaged because it is flat just before the connector. I am thinking about cutting two inches of it and reinstalling the connector.

Finally, none of that solved the problem, the scratchy sound is still there. I should consider another driver

have you tried playing it in another room? sometimes you'll hear a rattle elsewhere and swear it's coming from the cab. since it does it on both cabs and only on certain notes, i don't think it's broken. i think you're getting faked out by a rattle in the room.

+1 to what Jimmy said. Everything in my practice room rattles. Possibly, the handle/jackplate on the cab is loose. Check that too.
