My first 4x10

So after nearly 25 years of somehow managing to avoid owning a 4x10 cabinet, I fell victim to a killer deal today. It all started yesterday afternoon when I innocently emailed a friend who works at Grandma's Music here in Albuquerque to see if they had any bass-size shipping boxes. They did, so I headed over after work to pick up a few. Naturally, I took a look around the store and noticed their used amps section had a particularly fantastic BRAND NEW Bergantino HS410 marked down to a price I could afford. I would've just looked and not touched, but then I realized I had the *perfect* gig for that cabinet last night, so I asked if I could sign it out and try it on the gig.

One thing led to another, and well, it's mine now. My bass/amp of choice was my '08 Fender Jazz V w/Lakland pickups and my Epifani UL502 head. I usually use 2 UL112 cabs. They have done really well, though my amp always gets hot on this gig (it's a LOUD band), and they do lack a little bottom when I hit the C/D range on the B-string. Otherwise, I LOVE them - very clear and articulate. The Berg, on the other hand, had quite a bit more bottom and punchy low mids. It retained the clear, articulate tone of my Jazz, but seemed thicker and louder. My amp didn't hardly even get warm, so the Berg is definitely more efficient.

By the first song last night, there was no question that I'd HAVE to get this cab. Between the awesome price and how well it meets my current needs (I've been thinking about a bigger cab for well over a year), I just couldn't pass it up. I'm gonna keep at least one of my UL112 cabs, but I may sell off one to help offset the cost of the Berg. I don't need 2 "big" rigs, though - a single UL112 for smaller gigs and the HS410 for bigger gigs will do me VERY nicely.

Man, I thought everyone's owned a 410 at some point. Even I have one out in the garage

Congratulations....although it's very tempting to do a "welcome to the 21st century" thing...

Why, thank you. Maybe I'll soon join Facebook and get a cell phone... Nah! A 4x10 is enough "21st Century" for me.

Am I correct in assuming the HT410 is 4 ohms?

I think this is quite interesting. I know that the HS410 is a great cabinet. I am wondering how things would have stacked up in a comparison of two Bergantino 112s and the HS410?

The HS410 is 4ohms. I once debated whether or not I'd want 4 or 8 and came to the conclusion that for 98% of my gigs, 2 410s would be WAY overkill, so I was ok with the 4-ohm cab. My UL502 is 600W@4ohms, so there's a lot of headroom most of the time.

I've only played a couple Berg 112s very briefly and remember being very impressed, but not enough to dethrone my Epi cabs at the time. The Epi boxes are bigger, and if I recall, have better low-end extension than the Berg cabs I played at the time. However, I played those in the store with a Genz-Benz head driving them, so there were a lot of variables.

I was seriously looking at that same cab and actually swung by Grandma's yesterday to see if it was still around. It had to be the one other TB'er from NM...

It's MINE now! I love it.

There's a couple more NM-based TB'ers, but we're far and few between...
