Question My first rig! (noob)

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey guys!

I've been playing electric and double bass for about a year (before that I played guitar for 5-6 years) and my current gear is a german double bass from the 30s, a Fender Mexico Jazz Bass, and a Ashdown Perfect Ten 30w amp.
As you probably can tell I haven't really been playing with bands yet, besides from high school, where I used the school's amp.

I want a good all-round rig that isn't huge or extremely powerful (its my first, remember. I'm hopefully going to play all kinds of music with it so the all-round thing is very important. Of course, your own hints and tips are MOST welcome.
I found some used rigs on a swedish music auction site and please let me know what you guys know/think about them!

http://www.vend.se/ad.php?30306 <- Ashdown amp with Carvin cabs. Described as a "bass rig with fat tone". 784 USD.

http://www.vend.se/ad.php?29707 <- Ampeg SVT 15 (huh?). At first I thought he included both the amp and the cab for the ridiculous price of 499 USD, but now I suspect that he only meant the cab. Going to let you guys make that call though.

http://www.vend.se/ad.php?29396 <- RSL-Proline preamp, Kitty hawk 2x60w something(can't find the english word for it. Postamp is the best description I can come up with on my own).
210 and 115 ELS (old EBS) cabs 8 Ohm. Its possible to buy the pieces separately, but the all-together price is 670 USD.

There is also the Rocco Prestia designed Staccato 51 for 1,212 USD.
And also the Mark bass TA501 for 1,112 USD. Could buy these two with a suitable cab if you recommend it.

http://www.blocket.se/dalarna/Hartke...5.htm?ca=5&w=3
Also found this on another site. Its the Hartke HA7000 amp with 250 + 250 watts (what does that mean?) for 499 USD. "For the right price" he will also throw in a Hartke 410 XL cab for free.

-----------------------------------------------------------
Maybe I should buy new instead of used? I'm a huge, HUGE noob when it comes to amplifiers and most electricity stuff in general so please keep that in mind and make it simple if possible.

Now, if there's some trouble regarding my language or anything else, don't hesitate to ask. I'm swedish, therefore I'm nice (?).

The SVT 15 is just a 15" cab. Not really sure on the US price, but 500 sounds about right to me. The Hartke 250+250 just means there are two 250 watt power sections, most bass amps have one power section, most power amps have two.

Your English is fine, excellent even. Well done. I couldn't understand a word in those Swedish links...
I'm not an expert either, but the Hartke rig sounds like the best deal to me.

In terms of value for money, Hartke is hard to beat. If the gear is in good condition, I would get the Hartke rig. It's cheaper than the Ashdown / Carvin rig and will give you a nice booming tone for starters - and although I have a lot of respect for Carvin products, I do not really like Ashdown stuff (especially reliability wise).

The Harke does sound like the best deal for a good starter rig. Also, I have an Ashdown Perfect Ten and it's been great as a practice rig, and I've even used it as a monitor at several gigs.
