My "fliptop" tour rig

Sign in to disble this ad
Originally got this fliptops.net cab to pair with my late 70s orphaned B15n head, but it sounds so good, I decided to start using it with some different amps. For the current tour I'm on, I'm using the EA550. This cab's mojo makes up for any lack of tone the EA head may have...compared to "heavier" amps!
Truly happy with the volume and tone with this setup. I've been storing everything inside the cab for travel too!!

Cool, but just remember to strap everything down inside the cab or else it could fly up when you hit a bump and get bashed up.

That's a nice looking Precision. So cool next to the cab.

Jimmy,
Here's one for the books. I was playing a concert on a stage where they were using risers to elevate the rhythm section. It was pretty crowded so I had my B-15 as far back as it could go. Well the amp just did a nose dive of the back of the stage and hit pretty hard. I figured that it was toast, there was a dent in the tube cage and one of wooden supports that holds the head away from the speaker had almost pulled all the way out, ( you could see the nails!) so the head was leaning down into the inside of the cab.
But low and behold, when I got it back on stage it still worked just fine. All I had to was reattach the support when I got home, and fix the dent. Ampeg, takes a lickin'
and keeps on tickin'.

Ric, that's why I have to laugh when people who never owned a tube amp in their lives claim they're delicate and prone to breaking down. They're tanks, especially B-15's.

The Tung-Sol 6L6WGB is a ruggedized version of the 6L6GC. It isn't uncommon to see these in these amps. These tubes are made a little stronger internally and they can dissipate more heat. It comes with a shock spec of 450G.

A regular 6L6 is rated somewhat less. You gotta figure that it's more than enough to take a lickin.

I have regular RCA 6L6GC's in my 64 and dropped it twice in one month and it's still running great. Scratched my Vintage Blue cab slightly on the bottom though...GRRRRRR!
