...the next time I'm in the middle of a blazing fast solo and I feel the urge to throw my bass behind my back for the scorching finale, I think I'll just hold my amp in the air behind my head while doing some one handed tapping.
I may have attempted this in practice. Unfortunately, I can't tap worth a damn, my amp was plugged in, and I'm not coordinated enough to pull it off anyway.
My drummer thought it was hilarious.
Before practice, I asked him to pick it up for me. He bent his knees and put 2 hands on the handle. I was afraid he would launch it in the air.
He's not a gear nut but, he loved it. Now, if I could only get him to bring less drums we could tour in a hatchback.
I'm still not sure how I feel about gigging with just a combo amp (we are a 2-piece band) but, I'm starting to think it might work.
It's definitely loud enough since I don't have to compete with any guitars and my drummer's not a heavy hitter. We play loud noisy rock and I usually feel more comfortable with a wall of amps behind me.
As soon as I can get over how silly it looks when a 300 pound bassist stands in front of a 30 pound combo amp and tries to look cool, I may be able stand in front of my amp and look cool. |
