Thumbs up My new demeter hbp1 - is the shiznit

So I just gigged on my new used demeter hbp1 and this is the sound I have been looking for. It's very punchy with still a warm low end, but not wooly. Every note is clear but not harsh.

It's amazing how even my tone is across the fretboard. My G string just became usable! The rest of my band was digging it too and our soundman said he had to do almost no eqing at front of house.

I used to run a compressor with my GK rig but the demeter has this really great natural compression. I know it's not compression but it just sounds that way to my ears. This is my first tube amp so maybe tubes just have that sound?

I think the eq section is perfect. I enjoy how unsensitive the low, mid, treble, and presence knobs are. I always felt like my GK was too touchy. (I am not getting rid of my GK - I think it a great amp) The parametric is great for finding problem frequencies or scooping your mids if that's what you're into but I left it alone - for now.

Definitely one of the best preamps out there for live bass. Loved mine, and miss it

i have an HPB-1J and i really like it ALOT. IMO, it's great for a big, clean, round and smooth tone, if that's what you're looking for. but if you're looking for overdrive or grit, i don't recommend it, unless you use a pedal in front it, but to me, that basically defeats the purpose of having one.

I run a bassdrive during some songs and I love the tone it get's through the demeter. It really calms down the highs and made it more overdriven and less fuzz sounding.
