My new GK MB rig

Sign in to disble this ad
My GK MBE 115 8ohm cab arrived today and it looks very cool with the MB 210 on top .
The sound is very good so I guess I dont have my extension cab socket wired incorrectly as some have been reported .
The difference in sound when I disconnected the 115 was unbelievable, very quiet without it, as a point of interest, there is still no date for the MBE210 cabs .
I am a happy bunny and think I made the best choice considering I only spent £240 .
A big thank you to Thomann in Germany for their excellent service .

Honest 'gratz to you Graham! Seems you've made perfect and inexpensive choice for Christmas! (I wish I could get my own gear quick, but I won't make it to Christmas...)

Play some "Neat, Neat, Neat" for me!

I told you not to be afraid of Thomann This is one of great sides to be in the EU. You can order gear abroad, get quality service, pay less, and all the stuff like import tax are non-existent.

I seem to recall (perhaps incorrectly) that adding an MBE 210 did not result in much of a volume jump when added to an MB 210, but apparently that is not so with the MBE115. Can anyone confirm this?

I have not had it up loud yet, only played it in the house but I can tell you that playing at the same level with and without the MBE115 makes a huge difference, it projects so much more as it should given the bigger speaker area .
What is a surprise is how nice the high notes sound, I thought it would be all lows !
I have got some accoustic egg crate foam to line the cabs now so I should have a very good sounding rig that I can carry from car to stage with two hands !!

Isnt it a funny optical illusion how the lower cab looks shorter than the top one despite being identical in size ??

Looks great Graham and glad to hear it sounds great as well. i pretty much have the same plan. I now have the SBX-2 115 and am planning on adding the 410 MBX to it in about a month from now. They are the same wattage and ohms so they should be a good match. For a while I'll have to use my Hartke 3500 head until I can get either a 700RB or MB500. Either way i expect my Hartke to still sound quite good by adding the 410.

Rock on man!!

BTW, how do you like your SG?

keeperthumpin, I sent you a PM a while ago with my thoughts on the SG .
I like it overall, it is very comfortable, light and the short scale suits me, it has a great action, I will send you another PM with a few more thoughts .

I can confirm that is NOT correct. There is a significant difference in volume and jump in overall audible goodness when adding a 210MBE to an MB210 (when wired correctly). Only thing bad about adding the 210MBE is that I can't push the amp as much (for tone) without getting too loud in my house.

I think my MB210 is unique, it does not have any vibes and the extension jack seems to be wired correctly , just to confirm though, is it very obvious if the jack is incorrectly wired, I can only presume that it would not sound good if that is the case ?
The 15"" speaker looks huge in the cab, I wish I had thought about the 115 before now instead of waiting all those months for the MBE210 which will probably never appear in the UK

You're welcome. I must add though that the hiss from the horn on my 1st and 2nd (replacement) 210MBE was way louder than on the MB210. Not sure why, I would have thought they would sound the same but that is definitely not the case with the two I heard.

Interesting. I was fortunate in that my MB210 has a "silent" horn. (When it's engaged I can hear some noise that goes away when I touch my strings--maybe something to do with poor grounding--but other than that it is silent when it is on.) It does a good job though and really opens up the top end when engaged. Since it works fine, it doesn't matter as much if the MBE 210 has a silent or noisy horn should I get one, although silent would obviously be preferable. G-K should address this issue. They have a really excellent product otherwise.

So what swayed you?

I recall you thinking about swapping it in for a 500 and a 410MBE, no?

Im just curious to the thought process or if you were able to try the 410 in person.

Money !!

I thought about this a lot and in the end I could not bring myself to spend £8-900 on an amp this close to xmas, as much as I wanted to
And logically my MB210 amp should not be too different to the MB500 so what would the advantages be for that amount of money ?
Of course some might say that the wife had some input

I have spent £240 on the MBE115, got the missus and children a few extra presents with the money I have saved and still got a nice bass rig-everybody`s happy
