My New Setup Advice Wanted

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi, I grabbed an Ampeg SVP CL preamp.. I have a Sansamp RBI.. I'll pair the two together with a power amp within a rack..

I have yet to buy a rack/case, or a power amp. I wonder what advice you can all please give me regarding the rack.. and a power amp. I have two Bergantino 12" speakers which I just love.. an EX112S 8 ohms and an HT112 8 ohms.. they do not exactly stack atop one another perfectly, but they combine to make a great sound, especially with a MarkBass LMII head. I might switch to Berg's 2x12 cab.. or an Epifinani 2x12 if they make one, 4 ohms.

I have to switch to Ampeg.. I did not want the headaches of a tube head entirely, so compromised with the SVP CL.. BTW, why did Ampeg stop making this preamp? Makes no sense.. I know it was expensive.. but.. anyway..

What power amp do people here recommend? and what rack? I think having a front door/cover would be a good thing. I have seen SKB racks.. the ones I have seen are very cheaply made and the hinges always fall off.. perhaps the guys with whom I've played bought cheap SKB racks... welcome thoughts. Would I need a power conditioner also?

with the above rig, the SVP , the Sansamp.. and possibly some other day another effects unit, that rig would be unstoppable, and tailorable, if there is such a word.

If you can justify the extra weight size and $$ for getting something more like a Road Ready case that would definitely be the better way to go as far as the actuall Rack.

SKB have a lifetime warranty, at least on their drum cases. My drummer sent all his cases back because the padding started to separate from the case. Normal wear and tear and they sent him 9 cases to replace the one he mailed to them. All he had to do was pay shipping charges for the old ones and they took care of the new ones. SKB cases have never failed me and I have never had to send them back, but it is sure nice to know they back their stuff up for life.

I suggest this Carvin DCM 1540L power amp.

http://www.carvinguitars.com/product...oduct=DCM1540L

or something from the QSC PLX series.

Put the two rack units and power amp in this 4 space rack:

Cheap and good.
