My newly aquired 70's Ampeg SVT!!!!!

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi guys, I finally made up my mind & bought a vintage SVT head. It's in really good shape I believe. Looks very clean & sounds fantastic, through the 2 guitar cabs it was hooked up to at the tech's shop where I purchased it anyways (Billy Zoom - look him up). Can't wait to get my 1x15 cab from Fliptops.net. I hope it's as bumping as I think it's gonna be!

Anyways, I'd like to extend a sincere thank you to all who contributed to my questions along the way while deciding what amp to get. This place was my number one deciding factor after reading many, many posts & asking a few questions. Jimmy was of great assistance as well & I couldn't have made up my mind with out any of you who chimed in. It was a toss up between this vintage SVT, an older and super clean SVT CL AV & an Orange AD200B. I think I'd have been happy with any of them but ultimately decided that this was the one! Thanks again & cheers to you all.

It was 1979 and I'd been playing bass for three years. My amp was a 50-watt 1965 Fender Bassman with 2x12". When I heard a local bass player's SVT (just like yours) with his 8x10" cabinet, I knew I'd brought a knife to a gun fight. Congratulations and great score.

Sorry bbe, but unless it has 6146B's, it ain't a REAL SVT!

No, actually they're all real SVT's, even the new ones. But I really love a good old one. And how many people can say they own an SVT owned and restored by Billy Zoom? Not many, I reckon.

It looks like mine, but a tad cleaner. You want the ampeg badge, though.

Awesome, thanks guys. Yeah, it came with one but was not the original. It was a newer one that just didn't look right so I took it off. I'll try & find one soon.

If any of you guys see a 70's logo, please let me know.

I know, right? Damn, I'd be too busy fawning over him to let him work on my amp. One of my favorite guitar players ever!

Congrats, OP, that's a sweet amp. If you're not familiar with Billy Zoom as a musician, look up the band X. The man kills.

is that gonna be an 8Ω cab?

SVTs are meant for 4Ω or 2Ω loads only.

if it is 8Ω, just get a second one and have a kick-butt rig.

BTW, keep the receipt in a safe place. You may one day sell it to some X fan for a lot of dough

My SVT-VR was demolished by UPS.

The good thing is that I got my money back, so I basically got a broken VR for free. I really need to get it into a shop to see if they can repair it. After that, I'd love to get it rehoused by Emperor than get a nice 810 (or 410) built to match it.

Ah, that sucks Josh but if the repairs are less than the cost of a new one, I'd say you'll have made out once it's fixed!

Jimmy, funny enough I didn't get a receipt. BUT, I have all of our email correspondence. I think that'll work in the highly unlikely event that I'll sell it!

I think fliptops.net has the logo you want. It's not cheap, but as you'll find nothing about old ampegs are

Now save up for that old 8x10... I had a '76 that kicked butt.
