I just noticed that the ULX1 transmitter has a gain adjustment and can be used with my slx reciever with alittle working.

wow

Wow, I just noticed that the PGXD14 package is digital and has the adjustable gain. I may have to sell my trusty SLX and buy one of these. The SLX is actually a superior unit from what Im reading but, I need that damn gain control so, it's either the PGXD14 or twice the price for a ULX.

I love watching people talk to themselves. It's very entertaining. . Hope you get it figured out.

bass

Sometimes yourself is the only sane person to talk to! Anyway, my SLX has treated me very well for a long time, I just need a transmitter with a variable gain since my bass is louder than any passive but less loud than some actives. The PGXD14 looks like what I need, or the ULX but, that is very pricey for what I need it for. I don't know what the advantages or trade offs there are between digital and UHF though?

Too true.
I know nothing about wireless since I've never used one but I'm thinking about getting one. Anyway you might get more responses in the the "live sound" section.

I had the ULXp for a few years and while it worked well it was a little complicated in that there was a gain control on the transmitter pack and a gain control on the receiver so switching basses that had different output levels required some tweaking (which is awkward in the middle of a set). I ended up replacing it with a X2 XDS plus which to my ears sounds exactly the same as a cable and because it is unity gain at both the transmitter and receiver it requires absolutely no adjustments. The simplicity and half the price of the Shure system really sold me. I have been using the X2 system since 2008 and it has been solid (except for the factory cable which I replaced early on with a heavy duty one).
