Mystery 8x10 Cab

I just bought this cab and it has no information on it anywhere. I'm pretty sure its an Ampeg. Any info would be appreciated.

Schroeder prototype? ;):D

Here's the guts.

First those look a lot more like 12" speakers to me. Interesting design but I doubt it is Ampeg personally.

Most probably alnico magnet speakers designed for guitar?
Credence speakers by the EIA code??

Spackerdave 01-29-2013 03:41 PM

I'm certain they're 10s.

Did you measure the diameter of the speaker basket? If you have 10" of actual cone diameter that will be a 12" basket speaker. Cone diameter of 10" speakers is generally between 8.5" to 9".

bassmeknik 01-29-2013 03:48 PM

cool

B-string 01-29-2013 03:48 PM

Ah close up that is a 137, CTS made those speakers.

Spackerdave 01-29-2013 03:50 PM

I didn't put a ruler up next to them but they're smaller than 12s. I mostly play guitar so I'm pretty familiar with 12s.

B-string 01-29-2013 03:52 PM

Looks like it could be a pretty good guitar cab!

Spackerdave 01-29-2013 03:56 PM

It sounds great! We're just really curious about what it is!
Here's it set up in my guitar rig the other night.

Wow!

Sorry I don't know what it is, but it looks very interesting.
Back then I can't think of any manufacturers that used 32 ohm CTS other than Ampeg, any Canadians know what did Traynor use back then?.
It might be someone's creative take on an Ampeg SVT flat back but shrunk a bit in hight, for some transport reason maybe.

Looks custom due to the look of the chamfers on the battens top and bottom MI cabinet makers only usually do straight lines and its unlikely that would be stock to high volume production.

Has some odd hardware on the bottom too.

Mykk 01-29-2013 04:16 PM

The fact they are rear mounted with four hold sown screws each tells me it's a very cool custom build. I would be inclined to play with it on its side. The last time I saw square drive screws I was building a 1936 Chevrolet series II Low Cab truck

Could be a re-baffled V2 or B25 cab. What are the dimensions of the cab. Amped didn't make too many rear loaded cabs (removable back panel )

That was once an Ampeg. That's the thumb screw hole for the dolly.

Spackerdave 01-29-2013 04:25 PM

I'll have to get the measurements next time that I'm at our practice space.

demon666 01-29-2013 04:35 PM

Yeah I'm thinking it was at some point a B25 2x15 cab that has been converted into an 810.
