Mystery amp?

Sign in to disble this ad
My friend's friend is selling his bass amp, all I know is that it's 100 watts, combo, somewhere around 20 years old, and approximately 3.5 feet tall. He's asking $125. I will be going to take a look at it, and I'm wondering if old amps should generally be avoided or anything, currently I'm using a 5 dollar guitar amp, so an upgrade is definitely necessary. When I go see it, is there anything in particular I should look for or any brand names to avoid before I drop 125 bucks on it?

I guess it's a randall. How are their old amps?

Thanks.

Their amps were decent tech back in the day.

1. Frayed or damaged power cords. If you see this, don't even bother plugging it in, and walk away. Safety first.
2. Damaged drivers. You'll pay more to replace them than your initial purchase.
3. Visible excessive physical damage to the amp section. If it's been abused this much, you won't get your money's worth out of it.

Sounds like a model RB100. You can expect Randall equipment to be heavy, but well built. I don't know anything about how they sound or their reliability. Can't say whether the price is reasonable or not. Give us an update!
