Mystery Ampeg 70's SVT cabinet. :help:

Just acquired this mid-late seventies cab. Serial#139131 Trying to get a specific date of manufacture for this thing has been a real pain. Also, what head matches this thing? No idea about Ampeg and this is my first time purchasing one. The thing sounds great with my GK 700RB. Proof is in the pudding i guess. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Pull out a speaker and give us the speaker codes you can find off of them. That'll give you the week & year of manufacture for the speakers and a much better idea of the cab's age.

70's ampeg serial numbers are pretty much useless for dating. If it's an 8x10 it was an SVT cab. Up until about 74 they were square back, 74 and after they were tilt-back. As Chris said, pull the speakers and look for a date code, should most likely start with 137 or 67, and the four digits after would be the year and week of manufacture for that speaker.

The numbers on the back of the speaker are 67-7733. So, it was made in the 33rd week of 1977?

Interesting bit of history, i believe this cab was used by L.A. funk band Momma Stud at one point. Pretty cool.

Made by Eminence the 33rd week of 1977, as identified by the 67 starting out the bottom number. So late 77 is most likely for the cab's release date. Nice score!
