NAD... Ampeg B4R.

Sign in to disble this ad
This weekend I traded my GK Combo for a minty Ampeg B4R. I was looking for a larger head but was really looking for eithr SWR or GK. I have never been an Ampeg fan but this amp seemed to be the right one to combine with my also newly acquired and equally minty SWR Working Tower 810. And I was right. I have not run it mono yet into the cab but just using one side at like 380 watts(???) I think...it sounds great. Gonna try to see if I can figure out how to rewire a speakon cable so I can run it bridged mono and get the full deal next weekend.

Any who Craig's List is proving to be a bass traders best friend. I scored both the amp and the cab doing trades that have been very onesided in my favor (I think) on consecutive weekends.

Pics coming......

The SWR in the top Rack came with the 810! The GKK was a good old TB score

I think a lot of people diss the Ampeg B series amps as cheaper wanna be's of the SVT Pro series. If it sounds good, who cares if it has tubes or not?!

Ahhhh tube snobs. LOL, yeah I am neither a tube fan nor an SVT disciple. Well I am pretty imprrssed with the B4R. It sounds great with my Stingray and Jazz.

I have sold SVT Pro gear and it is indeed nice stuff but I have a price point for basses and amps and they exceed that for sure. I traded a GK MB210 combo for this amp.

No offense, but I think the 700rb-II you list in your sig smokes any of the Ampeg SS or hybrid amps... If you're happy, that's all that matters, though...

None taken...I am a GK/SWR fan from way back...and this truly is my first Ampeg amp in 27 years of playing. But I really do like the way it wounds through the SWR Working Tower 810....

The GK goes through a 20 year old Goliath and it sounds awesome too.

I think that the B4 and the SVT1000 were the same amp in a different box. I had an SVT 1000 once upon a time. It would get teeth rattling loud, with an 810. Dependable amp, the tone wasn't my thing though.
Nice score man, enjoy!
