I picked this up about an hour ago. So far sounds very nice!!

It is in good shape. Tolex is great. There is a small dent in one of the corner brackets. Missing the Ampeg logo (will get one from fliptops).

So now for the questions....how do I date this?

Anyway, been wanting one for awhile and got a great deal on this. It sounds good through my Acoustic cabs but I really think I am going to have to go back to Ampeg...and pull a John_K (I think that is his name)...the guy on TB with the clean clean setups!!

it's a black line, so either 72, 73 or early 74. you can look at the pots or transformer codes for a closer idea.

btw, those black lines never had the ampeg logo on the grill.

great score!

I believe the only way to get an accurate date if from the pots.

Weird...there are screws where the Ampeg logo would have gone. Maybe they had one on there and took it off. Definitely got a good deal...I will see if I can get some codes and maybe you guys can help me narrow it down.

I almost bought one on TB a month ago...glad I didn't...got a great deal.

come to think of it, i have seen a later one from that timeframe that has the logo. if it's supposed to have a logo, there would be wood in the grill frame under where it used to go in the vague shape of the logo. me, i think it looks better without it, but i'd probably get one from bruce if it had it originally.

Yes, there is a wood frame behind where the logo would go. So I am assuming that would make it a 1974? I have no idea how to get to the pots or find the numbers on the transformers...just got it...don't want to have to figure out how to put it back together...haha.

i would guess an early 74, yes. it is a real pita to take out that preamp, btw. i can't blame you. i'd just call it a 74 and leave it at that

I like the way you think JimmyM!

Now, for cabinet suggestions. I had an SVT410HLF and I loved it...easily moved, etc...but I am thinking maybe looking for a 610HLF.....I just wish I could find a cabinet where the amp didn't hang off on each side...yeah I know...dumb request, but I am kind of A.D.D.

I believe it was up to 73 that didn't have logos, in 74 they added them. The 72/73 V4 I had had a wood panel behind with room for a logo, but it was never drilled for one.

Congrats on the amp.

Is there a way to clean the cloth?

Things I want to do
-Ampeg logo
-Back cover (there are 2 versions...not sure which I should go with)
-If can't clean the cloth, then get a new front cloth (but keeping the old to keep in case I ever sell it)

shouldn't hang off the sides of an 810e. might want to get your tape measure out first and check, but my v4b never hung off the sides of my flatback. flatback would be ideal, btw. don't think i'd get an hlf with it, though. they're not quiet cabs, but since they go lower they're a little suppressed volume-wise compared to their sealed counterparts.

Well, how about a v2 or a v4b cabinet?

The V4B would probably be my first choice...just to look uniform...but those are pretty hard to find I think.
