NAD! Crest ProLite 3.0

There have been altogether way too many threads about combos, and low powered rigs recently. So here is one about a big rig. I have traded up on my Peavey IPR 1600 to its bigger brother: the Crest ProLite 3.0. Today was my first practice with it. Here is my signal chain:

Aguilar ToneHammer -> ART PC II -> Crest ProLite 3.0 -> fEARful 1515/66/1. Here is a crappy cell pic of my rig.

This rig is an absolute beast. Loud, clean and clear or nasty and gritty when I want it to be, low end for days. This rig truly feels like it has no limitations.

So you are the one that ended up with that amp from the Classified section. I had my eyes on that too, but I have no preamp to try it with. I would have used my PF-500 as a preamp.

It was a good deal, and this cab loves headroom.

Have you noticed anything different vs your IPR besides more power?

Lightbulb Well!

I think that's the best lightweight power amp there is available.
As I don't want oodles of dsp functions.

No, that is why I love it. This was pretty much a linear upgrade.

I think some of the DSP stuff is pretty interesting. I just prefer to wait for some of the implementation to age a bit.

I have no basis for this at all, but most of the DSP loaded amps scare me a bit for touring...just seems like one other thing that can break or have problems. And I repeat, it's just a gut feeling thing, and I have no basis for that kind of thinking...just like to keep things simple when I can.

That being said, I'd love to try a Crown ITECH

Goes great with a Zoom B3 in front of it in the pre amp role.

+1

The beautiful thing about the ProLITE and IPR series amps is that just about anything will power them as a pre.

-beautiful rig, looks as though it has the ability to obtain a warm sound if desired yet plenty of power for any situation

Really nice seetup CL400Peavey! I've always been a fan of the Crest power amps. Used to have a CA4 when I did the preamp/power amp setup. I've been toying with the idea of getting a power amp to use with my Tonehammer.

The Tonehammer and a power amp is a killer rig! The only down side to the TH is that it uses an 18v power supply. I circumvent this by running it off of the phantom power from my ART. That pairing is incredibly versatile.

That's a good point. I have the 18v adapter but it's kind of a pain to use. I use my TH mostly for studio work but live I always feel like it's too easy to yank the power supply out of the pedal!

If its running off of phantom power that XLR cable is not coming out.

That's the way to go when using that pedal live!

I'm really loving my Prolite 2.0. I bought it as one of the first owners (not much out for reviews when I picked mine up) and I've been nothing but happy with it. My 2X RBI setup into my Mesa PH412 is like a match made in heaven!

Such good tone, and my back REALLY likes the lightweight of the crest in my 6U rack case.
