This thing has nasty distortion and by nasty I mean awesomely dirty. Slaved it to my Ampeg tonight and made some wonderful noise. Hopefully can get a recording of it sometime soon but for now you'll just have to take my word for it. It's a pretty cool head and for $120 + $85 to replace an input jack, replace the power cord, and a good cleaning by a good tech I couldn't be happier for $205. It's rad.

COOL! Old school THUMP!

Weren't Earth products clones of Peavey? I remember them from way back in the 70's. I seem to recall they were quality knock-offs, but Peavey lawyers knocked them out of business. Kind of the Behringer of the day, but with quality.

I know, I know...Google it for myself!

It was a power cord, input jack and an hours worth of super cleaning and tightening things up. Someone had also bypassed the fuse with the last power cord so he undid that too. But yeah... Bench work is $75/hour plus parts.

To the others... Yup, Earth was sued by Peavey towards the end but the older tube Earth heads weren't Peavey knockoffs at all & I've heard they're pretty awesome though I've not played one. This one though... Pretty close but I've wanted a Mark head for a while too & this one may just satisfy that GAS as well.

Congrats man. I remember your "should I get this?" thread, and was waiting to hear the results.

Can't go wrong for that price.

I just saw this one pop up on a CL in Ohio:

if thats true, thats very intresting. 70's lawsuit stuff was all we could afford as kids. we all had arias, univox, westone, westbury, and ibanez gear. someone should start a lawsuit gear thread. mmmmm....

Off on another tangent:

I dropped off my snow-thrower to be fixed because it wouldn't start. I figured as much since I didn't run it dry at the end of last season. I picked it up less than two hours later at a cost of OVER $80! Sixty of which was labor! OUCH!

Okay, derailing over.

Earth's solid state amps were copies of Peavey amps, especially 130 series gear.

The Tube stuff were copies of Fenders.

The biggest problems with the Earth amps (solid state ones) was they were made relatively well, but the output transistors they used were often under spec.

There was a story about Peavey getting wind of what ESR was doing, and having an ESR tech get shipped out to Mississippi, because Peavey had a few questions about the lay out and design of their Peavey Copies.

Earth Sound Research Started out as PLUSH amps, and then evolved into Earth Sound Research. .... And they did plenty of Research. I don't think i've ever seen one of their amps that wasn't a Fender Bassman Or Peavey 130 series copy.
