NAD: Marshall Super PA 100

Sign in to disble this ad
I just picked this Marshall Super PA 100 at an estate sale... It needs new power tubes and to be rebiased... Its at my techs shop, everything appears to be 100% original and according to the literature inside the amp its a 74 model...

Enjoy:

As a side note, can anyone identify what brand these tubes are as I've never seen them before:

Bump, anyone use these or a similar marshall JMP for bass? How would they keep up with a 1000 watt mesa cab (a powerhouse 1000 or 2 by 15)

Hi.

Congrats, what a find.

I've used a 1959, a 2003 and JMP clones for bass and they nail that vintage bass-shy(ish) bass tone perfectly.

Thanks for the replies, I'm looking forward to next year and having this head up and running... Im putting a matched quad set of SED 6550s... a bit expensive but I think this head deserves it...

You'll have to excuse me, but the thought of some band trying run all their vocals through that thing just cracks me up.

One cool thing about all the inputs - you play different basses and level them out ... or run a dedicated effects input. Pretty cool really.

Cracks You up??

Obviously You've never heard vocals through a tube amp.

If given a chance, do try it, You'll be pleasantly surprised.

I NEARLY BOUGHT ONE years ago. But the same seller had an (Aus made) Eminar PA head that was 160w & I liked IT better - it was cheaper & so I grabbed it instead.
Was a beast tho & worked well as a bass amp.

Congrats!!!

Actually, I have. We used to use a pair of fender twins for a PA when I was in high school, back in the mesozoic period. It was certainly better sounding than those awful column PAs prevalent back then.

But by today's standards a 100w marshall, nice as it is, would suck for vocals....especially when you add that third voice.

My experience has been totally different, but then again I have always used "buffered" inputs, IOW, there's a half of a pre-tube in every mic signal path. On the guitar front end amps I've only used one mic per amp.

Both the Fender PA100 and the Marshall Master PA 2003 I usually use(d), has only 4 channels though.

And they would have run the amp through 4x12 speaker columns loaded with Greenbacks!!!!

Aren't EL-34s the correct power tube for a '70s era 100 watt Marshall?

I had a Marshall Major years ago that ran KT-88s, but that was a 200 watt amp.

Depends. Amps exported to the USA were modded by the importer to run 6550 tubes. For the classic Marshall tone, EL-34s are the way to go, though.

Cheers!
