So, this morning i finally received my barefaced midget!
I say finally because i ordered it early November and only received it now!
Apparently alex broke his foot at xmas and that on top of the natural xmas rush they must have had made everything pretty slow.
Start from the start, i usually use a walkabout scout 12"combo and for bigger gigs add an extension, i wanted something extra light and extra tiny i could bring along to pub gigs and small places.
Found barefaced randomly browsing through the web, read plenty of good things on here from greenboy and knowledgeable people and decided to go for it.
I went with the midget cause its smaller than my boogie, and since i always have PA support i dont need a massive rig, its more a stage monitor!
Next i needed an amp to power all that. Since those speakers can handle around 500w at 8 ohms i decided to focus on finding a head that delivered those figures and was disappointed to find that only the bass terror 500 and Shuttle 9.0 could deliver that.
Since i really like grit and dirt i went with the Orange, swapped the noname chinese tubes for JJ 12ax7 which gave the amp a lot more top end and less boomyness in the lows and i was good to go!
So, how does it sound?
Well pretty good! The cab is really tight and clean, sounds the same at bedroom level and pushed, for the size it has it sound amazingly fat and full!
Its really proper bass you get out of there!
Probably a bit cleaner and not as full as the walkabout cabs but alex assures me that it will be able to get a lot louder which is good and that EQing will make up for the natural tuning of the cab which isnt as fat as the boogie!
I wont be able to use the rig live since im going away for 6 weeks but when im back i will post more about it.
From what i hear in my room i cant wait to try it out!
The best thing of all is the weight and size, this thing is Tiny!
Its smaller than the walkabout scout combo, weigths less then half of it.
Scout is 25kg, midget is 9kg plus 4kg for the terror, thats 13kg!
Almost half as much as my scout! |

I have been ABing my two rigs and its strange, for some reason i prefer the Orange/Barefaced for my Gibsons (Tbird and RD Artist) and my Rick but i prefer the Boogie with my Fenders!

After two uses the Orange Bass Terror died on me!
Last week it cut out twice during the gig, i played around with the kettle lead in the back and it came back on so i assumed it was just a bad connection and carried on!
Yesterday, it started doing the same thing and then just died! No lights, no sound, no nothing! Checked the fuse, tried with another kettle lead, nothing, its just gone....
Im really annoyed and although it is still under warranty i really dont feel confident in orange anymore!
Can you really rust an amp after it failed twice in three uses?
Did i just get a lemon or is it just a crap amp with bad QC?
Will call orange on monday and see how they handle this situation and keep ou posted. |

Will call orange on monday and see how they handle this situation and keep ou posted. | Exactly the reason I gave up on getting the TB, and went for GK 700RB-II. Just too many occurrences like this one, it seems that plenty of people who use the terror bass in a louder setting have them die out.
I've seen many threads about these issues and never seen one problem solved. The usual get go solution is to contact and send your amp to Orange. You might get a replacement that will die on you again though (seen a few of those cases as well).
I'm not sure if it's the chinese production or an inherit error, or bad tubes or whatever. I think I've seen cases where the problem persisted even after changing tubes though.
What to say, it's a great sounding light weight amp that just seems to have too many problems at this point. It's still a young product, maybe they'll sort them out.

Pretty bad odds if you ask me!
Dont know what ill do, maybe get a replacement or have this one fixed and see if it behaves.
If its ok ill keep it, if it acts again ill get it exchanged and sell it!
Cant own an amp i cant rely on!
On the bright side though, the place i bought it from has a 4 year warranty on top of the orange warranty! called them and they organised a pickup for monday and will have it fixed or exchanged asap!

Dan K | Here you go!
The first one was my old setup with CO2, that was 2 years ago i think, i then moved flats and since i moved i struggle to keep a good water balance, dont know if its the water mains that are different or the fact that my tank has a bit more light around it (no direct sunlight still!) or that my flat is warmer (loads of windows facing the sun) but i dont seem to be able to get plants as nice as i used to!
Second pic is the latest update, started from scratches to try to get it working again and it looks like its working!
Having more problems with algae to, dropping the CO2 helped though...
not really on subject but hey! |

Or am I missing somethin?
