NCD: Ampeg SVT210AV

I just picked up an Ampeg SVT210AV from my local dealer last night. I played through the head/cab a few weeks ago, but really didn't care for the head. The cab on the other hand seems pretty cool. I'm hoping to get some time this weekend to sit down and compare it to my Epifani UL-110 S1. I'll be powering them with a GK MB-200. I have 30 days to return the Ampeg, so after my direct comparison with the Epi I can either return it (if I prefer the Epi), or I'll list my Epi and get another SVT210AV.

I know the cabs are pretty different, so I'm not sure what to expect. I like the Epi, but I'd like something that doesn't sound so mid-scooped.

Anybody else ever make this comparison?

Never made the comparison, but the 210av is one of my favorite cabs ever. I used two of them with my 69 SVT a couple nights ago, and it was amazing!

Ya, I saw your thread on it. The youtube clip sounded pretty good considering the way it was recorded.
I'm pretty sure you and I have pretty different preferences when it comes to tone though. I'm looking for something a little more modern than a P-bass with flats (which probably explains why I didn't care for the head). Not that there is anything wrong with that tone, its just not what I'm after. I'm just wondering how much different the cab will sound with my setup.

I've sat down with both cabs two nights in a row using two different basses and my ipod. I don't know if its just me, but I'm having a really hard time telling them apart. The Epi goes a little deeper, but not a lot. The Ampeg is a little more present in the mids. The biggest difference is in the top end because the Epi has a tweeter. However, I don't usually have it turbed up that much, so I don't feel like I'm giving up that much using the Ampeg. Another surprise is that both cabs seem to have similar outputs with the same settings on my amp. I was expecting the Ampeg to be louder since it has 2 woofers.
Given the night and day differences on paper I was expecting to be able to hear more dramatic differences in the tone, but that's not the case. I'm still undecided if I'm going to keep it or return it.

As much as I've tried to like this cab, it's just not giving me the tone I want. I'm going to return it and try out an Eden EX112.
