I recently spotted an ellusive Schroeder 1212R on Guitar Center's website, used, from a store in Texas. I've been hunting for a good 8ohm Schroeder cabinet to pair up with my 8ohm 1010 to get the most out of my Orange BT500 head at 4ohms and it seemed like a great match to what I had. I wanted a bit more low-end oomph to complement my current cabinet and preferred to stick with the same brand. I called to double-check the specs and ended up talking them down on price so that sales tax and shipping (to me in NY, almost $47) was 'free'... awesome.
Fast forward to the next day. I get a voicemail left by the store that there's a problem with my order and that I need to call them back. Crap. When I do, they explain that they had two Schroeder cabinets, sold one, and somehow goofed... the cabinet they have isn't a 1212R and ask if I'm still interested in what they do have...
It turns out it's a Schroeder 1515+L and they offered it to me for the same price. I actually got it on Friday but was too busy giving it a workout over the weekend and at practice this week to make a victory NCD post.
Initial impressions: Holy crap.
This thing is a lightweight MONSTER. Awesome lows and surprisingly good midrange and higher frequency response for having no horn/tweeter. Punchy as heck. I did notice that it's 'Schroederishly' buzzy (not too bad) at certain frequencies (angled baffle moving a bit? bracing issue? front grille?) but who cares, it handles 800 watts at 8ohms and is amazingly only 38lbs on the scale at work. Compared to my 52lb Schroeder 1010, this thing is a breeze to move around. Stacked with my 1010 and pushing the Orange a bit, this cab is quite impressive.
Hooray for good Guitar Center goofs and thanks for reading!
