So, I got a couple older Eminence Deltas a couple years ago for $90 & figured I'd build a cab someday. Well, that day never came and I contemplated selling them a few times. Glad I didn't! On today's craigslist was an empty Emperor 215 for $225. Talked him down to $215 and he even delivered it with most of the screws but no wiring in tact. So, I have to make a trip to Home Depot tomorrow and get a few more screws and some wiring/connectors and that should just about do it! All told, $305 isn't too bad for an Emperor 215, huh? I emailed Emperor and asked what speakers were in there, originally & they said Eminence Legends so they're not super different from the Deltas. Oh, and the best part... I sent the dude at Emperor a pic of the cab and he says it's one of their original cabs. He said probably one of the first 200 made!
Anyway, pics so far!
Can't wait to take it for a spin at practice on Tuesday! |

Psyched.
I'm kind of personally on the fence about the Emperor's (because I have rocks in my head), but that is a major score.

Like an orange ad200. Since the top is smooth the amp will vibrate and fall off. This happen to my ad200 once (it's fine) I took off the rubber feet put wood slits with velcro. Problem solved.

I'd wager you'll be OK with your SVT. It's not goin' anywhere. I ran mine on raw plywood for years and years. It's heavy enough not to move.
Cab looks killer. |

Cab looks killer. | Correct.
An SVT will not move.
but anything under about 55 lbs will.

can you give us the oft repeated justification for damping material vs. no damping in 10 seconds or less?
It's supposed to reduce reflections inside the cab, obviously, but what's the net gain? Cleaner sound? More efficiency?
I've run my old TL606s both ways over the years... and for as hard as I was hitting them, I couldn't really hear any sonic difference. (Granted, I'm going for over-the-top speaker break up.) |

It doesn't cut through quite as well as the 810 and I had to cut the highs pretty considerably to get the tone I wanted and I also had to boost the mids a little to get it to cut through... Strange. I didn't expect either of those to be the case. I also tried both of them at the same time for a little while and it was too much. I had to turn way down and the grit didn't come through like I like it.
Anyway, I'll try it out for another few weeks to get a feel for it. I didn't fall immediately in love, but I've been with the the 810 for almost the entire life of this band so this 215 might just be something to get used to. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
