NCD(maybe): Vintage Musicman Seventy-Five 210 Cab w/pics

Sign in to disble this ad
Well i was at my local Music-go-Round today and as i was about to leave then they got in this cab and for cheap. They opened it up and right off the bat i seen the speakers had been changed to some type of newer Eminence speaker. So after they purchased it I played a couple heads though it and it sounded pretty good. I put it against a Markbass and SWR 210 they had in the store and it kept up pretty well not too much low end but good. I took it home for a "test to buy" and ran my Genz Benz Shuttle 9.0 thru it and was suprised how good it sounded. I opened it up and snapped some pics. Its a good size and light cab and i cranked it up as much as i could watching where my bass control was and it seemed to hold it's own. I did some reserch on the speakers and I suppose they are Blue Marvel speakers made for peavey by Eminence. But im still not sure if i want to keep it or return it. The dimentions are 22.5W x 13.5D x 12T (Not very different in size compaired to the Ampeg Micro VR or Aguilar Jack Cassidy cabs) I wonder if i should keep it and rock it hoping i don't blow it, keep it and replace the speakers, or return it. But this cab has created some G.A.S. for a light 210.

With a frequency response of 80-7k, they're likely to sound a little bright/thin, especially in what is almost certainly a vintage guitar cab, but if it sounds good to you, and the price is right, keep it. It's nice to have options. And you could always put more bass oriented drivers in, and maybe even put some bracing inside the cab to get more low end response.

Probably loud as hell with a response like that though. Might be good paired with a stout 15. Personally, I would probably sell the drivers to a guitarist, and put something more bass focused in and then STILL use it with a 15.

It was more naturally bright compared to the other cabs for sure. And I'd pair it with my 15 but its 4ohm and the mm is 8ohm. I just put it back together and I think it sounds good. I wish I had a gig I could use it on right now to put it though all the right paces.

If both speakers are 16Ω then the cabinet will be 8Ω impedance. Note that the jacks are wired in SERIES not in parallel like just about every other cab out there. I feel like the Shuttle will be too much amp for that little cabinet.

If you plug your 4Ω 15 into the 2x10 you'll have total impedance of 12Ω. If you plug the 2x10 into the 15 or into the amp with the 15 you'll have 2.67Ω which, IIRC, is below the minimum impedance of the amp and will cause damage.

Either way it's not an ideal cabinet to mate with what you already own.

Im using it for studio work as a guitar cab with my Ampeg V4-b and if i ever had a super quiet gig i may use it with the shuttle in moderation. I really just want to know what the model is and if I can date it.
