Neat Little Inexpensive Headphone Amp.

Sign in to disble this ad
I recently got one of these via eBay and figured that anyone else like me on a budget might be interested:

It's a pretty decent little headphone amp for $25.00,and I'm currently using it with my Ministar Basstar bass. I also tried
it out on one of my keyboards with good results as well.

Isn't that almost universally true, regardless of the amplifier?

FWIW, I have gotten good results using a CMoy headphone amp in conjunction with my efects loop.

That seems like a pretty standard disclaimer to me. What if I had a bass with really weak pickups and connected via a piece of lampcord with bad solder joints on the jacks? There are "those guys" out there. They're just CYA.

I guess I was questioning the " cable " part of that disclaimer. I've used dozens of different instrument cables, never effected the " quality " of my sound.

I understand what you're saying, jnewmark. You probably use a decent cable. Livewire or Dimarzio or even make your own out of good quality, shielded cable etc. They're worried about the guys using a 100-foot piece of 24ga lampcord for a cable.

For not much more money you can get a micro mixer that'll do just as well and allow you to add music from the MP3 player of your choice.

Putting this thread back on the rails,I thought the little amp would be of interest for those like me on a very limited budget. Bassman Paul,I'm not aware of micro mixer prices so thanks for the heads up on that, something worth looking in to. IMO most disclaimers are for the truly clueless anyhow and usually good for a laugh for those with common sense!

Cheers all.

This does have an aux in, and you would be hard pressed to find a little mixer with any kind of distortion or amp character effects. Plus, just about every bass has some kind of EQ on it, so why bother finding a headphone amp that's redundant like the mixer?

I use a small mixer for that purpose but I'm using an active bass. The input impedance of a mixer (typically 20KΩ - 50KΩ) might not be ideal for a passive bass.

I would kind of rather have a simple tone control as opposed to a "tube" knob. Though for guitarists that probably is a nice feature.

vox amplug bass

Anyone have thoughts about the vox amplug bass. It seems to be a little more than double the price of the one mad moon bought and gets some good reviews.

Is it the vox worth the extra money?

I've been curious about that little Vox amp as well.A couple of years ago I bought a C Tech Pocket Rock-It Bass headphone amp and was really disappointed with it,so back it went to Musician's Friend. I do like the tube control on the Concept 3 headphone amp I bought as it gives my bass a bit of extra growl that I like.

Cheers all,

I have a Vox amplug and love it. With aux in the sound is very good. IMO way better than a small practise amp which pftts out on the low end. The sound is very full and you dont bother anyone else. Got mine on Fleebay for $25 and shipping is insignificant if seller is honest.
