Need Advice on 2x10 4Ohm selection

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello everyone,

I currently play Tobias Classic 5 and 6 through an Eden World Tour 800. I have 2 of the 410XLT's but due to size I rarely use them. For the past decade, I have been using 2 Euphonic Audio 1x10 3-way cabs (The original models sold back in 1999), and I've been very happy except when playing larger gigs or with a really heavy hitting drummer. Thus I have found myself needing more volume. This because the boxes are 8 ohm and thus the WT-800 delivers only about 400 watts at this load. So I want to pair them to one side of the amp and put a 4 ohm 2x10 on the other to get the max power from the head.

I have been looking at several 2x10 4 ohm boxes and was wondering if any of you have heard and/or compared them.

Factors I require for my selection are:
- Good low end and big sound if possible
- 400 watt minimum power rating
- Front ported. Rear porting is not an option
- Weight
- Dimensions (I want to be able to put the entire rig in my car)

Here are my selected candidates thus far:

EA's NL210
Eden 210 XST
Epifani UL-210
Markbass Standard 102HF Front-Ported Neo 2x10

I am leaning toward the Eden because I own Eden products and they have delivered as I have expected, however, the Epifani is really light by comparison, so I am very curious about it as well. It's almost half the weight of the XST and the dimensions are slightly smaller.

Has anyone heard these cabs or others that fit my specs and what would you conclude? Price is not an issue, so please only consider Sound, Weight, and Size in that order.

Thanks for you input...

TJ

I was in the same situation as you. I owned a Eden 210 XST before and was going to buy again but they're out of stock everywhere. One of my buddy's @ GC recommended the Epifani UL 210 over the Markbass Front-ported Neo. I went with the Epifani PS 210 and I'm very pleased. The UL series would even be better so I say go for the Epifani. It was smooth, thick, and punchy all at the same time.

My choice would definitely be the Eden, been using the 2x10 for years and it is killer. Not too impressed with the Markbass cabs, but the Epifani is sweet.

Throwing out the Bag End D10BX-D. I have no experience with it, but it fits your spec.

Running a 210 at 4 ohms is going to getter you bugger all extra volume even at twice the power (the power-volume curve climbs exponentially, not linearly), which you couldn't run through the cabinet anyway without melting it.

If you need more volume, you need more speakers and/or a more efficient cabinet (e.g. horn-loaded, like a BFM cabinet).
