Smile Need advice asap! Ampeg 7 pro or Little Mark 3???

Sign in to disble this ad
I currently use an ampeg svt 4 pro. I have had it for 5 years now and I am looking to just change things up and also have something a little lighter. I need to know soon what to get with some really really big shows coming and a tour and that. I play pop punk like, mxpx, lagwagon type stuff. Any advice on what one will be good. I love ampeg but I am wanting to give markbass a try. Will it give me the power I need? How great is the 7 pro?

I recently switched from the 4 Pro to the 7 Pro and I am happy with the results.... Ampeg tone in a much lighter package! I've never played through a Little Mark 3 so I can't comment on how they compare.

I really dig my little mark tube and, to my ears, the ss side of this head sounds just like the LMIII.

I think you should try both, but the LMIII can get you there.

I went from a 3 Pro to a LMII althought wanted to try a 7 Pro; there were none around and the LMII was 1/2 the price; also was a little concerned with the reliability of a new Ampeg model.

OTOH, love the LMII and is more simlar than different to my SVT-CL which the reference amp by which all others are judged for me

I played both and bought the SVT-7, didn't really care for the MMII (not bashing, just not my thing). Plus if you ever feel you'll need 1000watts, well that only leaves you one choice

There's always LM800 for 800W of power. Haven't had a chance to play the SVT7, but if its anything like the SVT4Pro, I'd take it over Little Mark for your style of music.

Make sure you buy it from somewhere with good warranty and the possibility to have it repaired afterwards.

lm800 and lm3 sound nothing alike to me. the 800 is a class d amp and i think the class ab design in the lm3 works better for what i like, which is ampeg tubey in nature. the 800 sounds more like what you hear out of most solid state amps.

never tried this 7 pro, though. sounds like i should.

I see, hadn't realised there was any difference besides output power rating.

my opinion of the 7 pro was that it has the charactersitic Ampeg hybrid tone, with a bit more tube drive than the 4 pro. Has alot more power but not as much tone shaping as the 4pro. Really gotta just go to GC and give it a shot yourself.

Markbass Tube 800 here

I tried both the Ampeg Pro7 and the Markbass Tube 800 at GC. I left with the MB Tube 800. IMO I thought the MB was more versatile and the ampeg not so much. I would suggest trying them out first and seeing which suits your needs best. I went in prepared to buy the Pro 7.

Dropped in GC today to check out the Ampeg 7 Pro. Very impressive, warm, clean, and seemed to have lots of power. It was hooked up to the 4 ohm SVT410HLF. I hooked it up to an 8 ohm Ampeg SVT 15 as well for comparison. VERY nice. Hopefully Ampeg is turning the corner after the bit of bad press. There was a Markbass Tube 800 there also. I've been wanting the MB but to my ears on this day, I liked the Ampeg.

Couple of weeks ago I went to GC and tried both Ampeg svt7 pro and Markbass 800 Tube and left with the Ampeg. It just sounded like it had more vibe and sounded sweeter when I played the upper registers - nice Ampeg grit. The Markbass sounded lifeless to my ears. The only thing that sounded as good to me that day was an SVT 4 Pro but I was looking to shed weight.
