Need Advice on New Amp Head

Sign in to disble this ad
I posted a while back about needing advice for a new cab. I ended up buying the Avatar TB153. I'm really loving the cab and my amp recently gave up the ghost. I'd love some suggestions of an amp to pair with my cab. My band plays folk/alt-country/rockabilly. I'm more of a hobby musician and I'm probably looking at something under $500. Thanks for any help you can offer.

Ampeg PF-350 or PF-500 depending on how much power you think you will need.

Thanks for the input everyone. I'll definitely check into the Ampeg. I've come across several used Ampeg SVT 350's and B1-Re's and B5R's. I'm not terribly familiar with these and wondered what you think about them.

Markbass as noted - trying to stick to your $500 (or thereabouts) budget.

I would advise against the SVT 350, Underpowered for it's rating and sounds very bland.....

The Ampeg PF-350 and PF-500 are both reasonably cheap, and are significantly lighter than the other Ampegs you mentioned. The SVT-350 really has nothing in common w/ the SVT aside from looks and name.

you might be able to get a GK 800RB used at that price point (bi-amp 300w@4ohm, 100w@8ohm)
