Need alittle more

I went to band practice today with my stock MIJ Fender '51P RI. I plugged into their own Peavey Firebass 700 head, and Peavey TVX 410 cab. I was highly impressed with this rig, but it needed some more to it. I play in an acoustic/light rock group, but the drummer plays loud, and likes my bass to be loud. I'm not sure if I need a bigger cab, bigger head, or even both. I'm thinking I should get a head with atleast 1000watts, and a 6x10(as big as I wanna go). I like 10's bassy punch, and utilize it in my playing. I would like to stay away from the refrigerator 8x10's. Am I just imagining things, and just need to put a 1x15 under it? Or do I need to look into other manufacterers with possibly better technology/frequency response?

A drummer can only get so loud. Even with the loudest drummer a Firebass 700 into a 410 should be able to drown him out with ease.

You play in an acoustic/light rock group so again the Firebass 700 into a 410 should easily drown everyone else out.

You must be EQ'ing it to not give you what you want. Cut the Contour way back to about 2. Cut the lows back to about 10-11 o'clock. Put the mid shift knob at about 200-250Hz and the Mid knob at about 1 or 2 o'clock (or more). Adjust the highs to taste. Put your Pre-Gain at about 5 and adjust the volume to suit your needs.

You should be able to kill with that rig.

It's gotta be me not messin with the EQ. I mean, I touched on it when I plugged in, but just for a quick setting. Cause in our previous practice, in a different location, but similar acoustics, I was playing my bass through my Ampeg BA115, and that held it's own. It might not been as bassy as I would've liked, but it was there. But also too, I do like my sound to be bassy, I'm not just looking to boost mids just to be loud. I'm looking for the tone I like too. I will test your settings, and maybe go from there. Like I said, it was a quick setup, and didn't have time to mess with it. Thank you for your help.

Well, a Peavey 410 does have that "mid hump" to it. But you have to be careful using more "bass". Low frequencies rob any head of power and also cause speakers to distort sooner. And typically adding low end onstage to be heard will only end up sounding like mud. Mids are what give a bass it's voice, not low end. So at least mess around the mid shift and mid knobs to adjust for tone, but keep the "bass" down and only bring it up as little as you need. Keep the Contour knob down too...that will suck power because the more you turn it up, the more bass and highs it adds and the more mids it cuts.
