Need an Amp

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm an experienced guitar player looking for an amp to go along with my bass guitar that I'm considering getting. I'm looking at the Orange Crush 50W Bass Amp, but I don't know if it would give me the kind of distortion I want. I love the tone, but I don't know if it's capable of playing Noise Rock, Punk, and Alternative Rock. What are your recommendations?

What kind of setting are you going to be playing in? 50W will most likely not be enough if you are playing with a group. That might make an excellent practice amp if thats all you want it for, BUT I would recommend getting a head with at least 300W+ and a decent 410 cab if you are playing with other people.

Gigging perhaps...but just playing in a small group or church venue doesn't necessarily require a 410.

With regards to the original question, I'd recommend looking into slightly bigger amps, in the 150-200W range. Definitely stick with a combo if you're looking to practice. These slightly larger amps seem to be able to handle more, especially when you start coloring the signal with effects (fuzz/distortion, etc.) They usually don't run much more than $300-400 and are very versatile.

From my own experience, I recommend a GK combo, like the MB115 (200W).

I just realized my friend has that amp and it has a really nice, fat tone. How's the distortion on it?

I hardly ever use effects, but the MB115 is quite responsive and can put out nearly any tone if dialed in. It won't overdrive at 140dB like some guys want...but neither would any 1x15''. Your distortion should be great.
