"guitar and drums" but still has a headphone jack for practicing when my kids are in bed. a imput for a mp3 is a plus. how muck power do you really need to be loud enuff to jam. my marshall jcm 900 is plenty loud but i understant bass works differently. i was looking for something like maybe the line 6 75W? any imput would be apreciated

Volume is more a product of having enough speakers, more than wattage. Whatever you choose, be sure it has adequet spkrs, and the ability to add on another cab.

Depends on how loud the other guys are, how big the room is, room acoustics. I've seen a guy do quite well on a Crate 50W combo with two electric guitars, drums and PA for vocals, but it was a small room. I use a Genz Benz 300w 1x10" combo and have a 210 extension cab for when I want more volume.

Anyway, Long & McQuade have that Line 6 for $309. They have a 200W Gallien Kruger combo for $325 Long & McQuade - Gallien-Krueger MB112 - Extra-Compact Lightweight Combo

If you have no chance to try them out, I'd bet on the G&K, but do as much research as you can online before you buy anything. Check the classifieds here on TB too, always great gear being sold there.

you should get 100 watts amp at least.
now if you want a clear , better , defined , punchier tone, add more watts and speakers xD .

if you just want to have fun a jam with your friends , for me these are the options i would have on my list.

personally i love the ampeg tone for me it is just perfect . mixed with my warwick bass..

budget??

The line 6 110 will be buried quickly by a drummer, unless he's very laid back, playing brushes or asleep.

I second the Ampeg 115 combo. Decent classic sound, big enough that it feels right and perfect for a practice space.

That Line6 is going to be a little weak but a good 112 or 115 combo that has the ability to chain another extension cab to it would fit the bill. Combo by itself for practice, extra cab for gigs or anything with "full band volume".
