Does anyone know a good amp for a Ray Ramirez compact series bass?

Other considerations will affect this. Desired portability, watts, etc. will influence the choice quite a bit. Any good quality amp should be capable of reproducing an EUB. I'd imagine you want a relatively uncolored sound, some basic EQ to adjust for the venue. I use a B-15, it's stellar but doesn't have a ton of volume, and weighs more than most young guys can carry. My big rig also works well, it's plenty loud but heavy even for a fat old guy.

I've been using this rig for salsa. I love it.
Gallien Krueger 1001RB into a Hartke VX215
It has the tone and volume that I need.

What's a good amp for a Fender P-bass? The possibilities are almost endless. A flexible EQ is important for EUB, especially if you have piezos, but this doesn't have to be built in to the head. I'm very happy with the rig in my sig, FWIW.

I've seen quite a few guys using Hartke heads. I've also seen alot of guys using the Gallien Krueger 800RB, but I like the lows on my head better.

btw, I love that Hartke 2x15 cab. It is under 75 lbs!! It is easy to transport and I can leave the eq on the GK flat and not miss out on any low end.

One thing that I like about the 1001RB is that it has alot of headroom. I think alot of people like the tone of the 700RB better, but the 1001RB has been working great for me.

I have played EUB through GK 200MB (old series mini combo, 100w with 12"), a GK 400RB into a BagEnd S15, Ampeg B-15N, and Ampeg BA115 combo. I now use a new Ampeg PF500/PF115 fliptop and love it. Plenty of power, good tone, plently of control, compressor, and good output options.

The head is still in production, but you can find them used all the time in the classifieds here on TB.

The cab is discontinued, but if you can find one on eBay, they are usually pretty inexpensive.

Hartke is making a 1x15 version of that cab: Hartke - VX115

I have tried an Ampeg 2x15 SVT cab and it sounded great too. I like the Hartke better if only because it is alot lighter.
