Need a cab: GK Neo 2x12 or Avatar Neo 2x12

Sign in to disble this ad
I just got a 1001RBII and need a cab. I have a 20% off coupon at MF, so might get the matching GK Neo 2x12 cab. But, I've owned two Avatar 2x12's in the past and really liked them. Getting one in Black with grey/white basket weave would be my option. So, about the same price overall. Not sure if I'll use the GK cab bi-amped or not, but would be nice as an option. But, I've never owned a GK cab. I've tried them at GC, but that doesn't count IMO.

Thoughts? I RARELY buy new, so.... Plus, I've owned several GKs in the past, but never a GK cab to match.

The NEo 212 is my fav cab to date. its nice and thick like a 12 but has the clarity of a 410.

Picked up an Avatar 2x12 8ohm cab a bit ago & love it. Got it covered with green tolex because I had never seen a green tolex cab before. I love it - my drummer has had to tell me I'm pushing out too much low end...and that's bad how???

You'd probably be fine either way. But if I owned a GK amp, I'd certainly get (a) GK cab(s) to match. The bi-amp capability is reason enough, IMO. They're just gonna sound plain great together!

The HMS (biamp) rocks.....

I'm not sure about the 212, however, the gk112 is literally just a few bucks more than the Avatar 112 if you go through RMC Audio. I bet you'll find the same thing with the 212. And with the 20% off coupon from MF, you might do even better.

I have played both the 112 and the 212, and my thoughts are that they're both a bit "looser in the booty" than the GK's. But that works for some.

You guys are making this easy...

I'm planning on this being "the rig" for a while, so I'm hoping I make the "better" decision. I think both would be fine. The Avatar might work better overall "if" I decide to get a different head at some time.

I assume you say this because the GK has the bi-amp capable feature to be used with their amps?? But the GK cabs can run with tradition full range connection like any other cab on the market can. If you decide in a year the 12's aren't doing it for you anymore the GK cab will have more name recognition on your local Craigslist .

Go for the GK!

I've owned an Avatar 112 in the past; powered it with a GK800RB which I wish I still owned, and it sounded great...but now I've got a GKNEO212-II powered by a GK1001RB-II and it's like a dream come true. The clarity...sweetness...warmth...power...and I can lift it so easily at only 50 pounds. Love the HMS bi amp capability. Go with GK!

"...GK’s unique Horn Bi-Amp System. This feature is automatically engaged when you connect to a GK HBA compatible enclosure, giving you completely independent control of the tweeter and woofer signals. Now you can push the woofers to the max while the tweeter remains clean, crisp, and free of clipping distortion. A smooth tight tone is easily dialed in by adjusting the Tweeter and Woofer Master controls on the amplifier’s front panel...."

Well, to add to my decision, I found a GREAT deal on some SBX cabs........but the weight deters me a bit. I hate decisions.

I'll most likely lean that way. The thought of getting a SBX stack is tempting tho for the same amount of money. One 2x12 Neo would be nice to move from rehearsal and home.
