need a good solidstate bass head

I am looking for a good reliable bass head for around $500 to $700. I play metal music in drop tunings. I dont know if I should go markbass, gk, carvin,or what. Im hoping to get some help.

I used GK for many years until I decided to go back to a tube head. The 800RB and 1001RB-II are versatile and reliable.

+1 for GK

700 RB-II or 1001 RB-II would be great choices.

I would look into the Aguilar Tone Hammer 500 a lot Of people here seem to like it

My vote goes for gk as well.

Yep. GK all day long. Built like a tank. Powerful. Every one I have ever played has been "louder" and "stronger" than its watt rating.

i've been playing markbass amps for several years now and to me it's the best sounding stuff out there. every time i play, whether it's with a group or by myself, i notice how much i like the clarity and responsiveness. i know a few guys who use markbass amps for hardcore and they sound great.

Markbass LMII or LMIII. Can't go wrong.

Hobobob 02-14-2013 12:19 AM

For metal tones, it's hard to beat GK. Also take a look at Carvin - you get a lot of power and tone shaping for an incredible price.

thank you all for your input. i have alot to think about.

I have always gone back to GK..BUT, I have been using my MarkBass LMIII since 09'.

GK is good and Loud, and built well, but I get better 'Old School' Motown sounds from the LMIII.

The GK is good for bright and sub sounds that really make the Bass come out in the mix.

LMIII is warmer and creamy.

Bottom line...try them, A-B them..and bring your own BASS to compare.

I'd pick up a old Sunn Coliseum head, louder than god.

LH1000 and an outboard pre.

GK 700 RB-II. Great tone, loud, cuts through. Pair it with one or two GK Neo 410s (more bottom) or 212s (more balanced).

GK here

mcm 02-17-2013 06:50 AM

Gk 400 or 700 or 800

mattbass6945 02-17-2013 06:51 AM

ummm......i think someone mentioned gk. that would be my pick. something like a used 1001rb?

You might also want to check out Mesa Boogie Carbine amps. Great tone and plenty of power.

Primakurtz 02-17-2013 07:49 AM

+1 The Mesa M3 is one of the best deals around right now. Loud, fat, and versatile.
