Need help! Advice on cab for my head please?

Sign in to disble this ad
Okay, so I have an Orange terror bass 500, which is 500 watts rms (call me an idiot, but could this vary with impedance?). I run it through a 600 watt behringer cab (and the cabs actually better than you'd expect for behringer haha)

Cutting to the chase, i want to buy my friends Ampeg svt 806 HE cab, but I have a bit of a pickle . On the cab, it says the watts in two things about programs (i can't remember off the top of my head) link: Ampeg SVT-806HE :: SVT-806HE_01.jpg picture by bassplayer4003 - Photobucket
**I Know it isn't clear, it's the best i could find**
Something about 400 watts and 800 watts. I have no idea

So if you can just tell me whether my head and this cab are compatible, because it sounds amazing! The guy let me try it out before i realised that there may be a problem.

All help is good help, and sorry if I'm being a dumb noob!

Thanks!

The ONLY thing to be concerned about is matching impedance. The Terror bass does 8 or 4 ohms(?)- so set the switch appropriately and rock out. Wattage ratings on cabs mean next to nothing. The cab will let you know when you're pushing it too hard, and when you do, back off the volume and/or low eq. That's it. I was looking at one of those cabs myself, today. Should sound great with the Orange head.

+1. Match the rating in ohms. That'll do

The impedance is 4 ohms on the ampeg, and my orange has a switch for 8 and 4
So I can wire them up and it won't go bang? awesome!
Yeah when i tried it out, I pumped it up to my normal gig volume, and it sounded sweet, really punchy and tight.
Oh just to be sure, if I use effects that boost, for example bass booster, fuzz or overdrive, will this just be the same as above? if it starts to do damage, turn it down?

Otherwise thanks! Ill get a post again when I hopefully get it :P

Trust me. You will not fry the Ampeg, even when using effects. Even the Behringer would survive.
